relaxed and elevated for evening

I generally ignore all the pre-Christmas chatter about party wear - mostly due to the lack of said Christmas party wear opportunities - a fact I’m increasingly thankful for with each year that passes. However, this year there was one article by Farrah Storr about paired back. Going Out attire that got my attention in an instant - I’ve linked to it at the end of this post. Despite the title pertaining to Cool Girl party wear and my knowledge that I’ve always been way too enthusiastic about everything to get anywhere close to Cool Girl territory, Farrah’s formulas for party/event dressing at any time of year were in full alignment with my own. Example: Christmas or any other party event for that matter, shouldn’t require head to toe sequins/high heels/tight dresses in order to be considered party appropriate. Amen to that!

For my outfit chosen for the one place we did go (dinner at The Kitchen, Chewton Glen for Mr Start’s birthday), I borrowed a couple of principles from Farrah’s post and can honestly say it was the most me I’ve felt in a “dressed up” outfit for ages. The irony that I only managed a half-selfie in the toilet in the one outfit I felt bloody great in is not lost on me - still…I have zero regrets that I was too busy drinking champagne and enjoying a celebratory meal with my husband to bother about an outfit snap. “Well stop warbling and tell me the outfit formula Woman” I hear you cry!

In this instance, mine was no other jewellery up top apart from these long earrings and pairing these satin PJ trousers (Hello drawstring waist to accommodate big dinner!), with an oversized black T-shirt and blazer. I debated the footwear for all of five sseconds and went with a pair of COS sandals from summer (90% similar to these) - unfussy with a tiny heel. The fact I’ve treated you to a grainy, top half only, loo selfie means you’ll just have to trust me that they were the perfect accompaniment to the look.

If you don’t already own a pair of satin, going-out PJ pants, head over to Ghost and take a look at their many variations in colour and style. The fact that I wore mine four times over the Christmas period means these are already well on the way to becoming a relaxed but elevated wardrobe staple for parties, staying in or just lounging.

Style Note: I also wore mine with an oversized cashmere sweater and these trainers and it was the perfect “downtime with a point of difference” outfit. 2024 is going to be all about the point of difference for me!
