the quest continues…

I’ve written about my obsession with having fluffy brows before so it should come as no surprise that I’ve been busy perfecting the Fluffed Up Vibe on the regular. Still refusing to go down the microblading or laminating route, I think I’ve now got the brow part of my morning makeup routine nailed. I’m basing this on a few comments I received when making a rare Instagram Stories chat appearance that went along the lines of “Your brows look amazing - what do you use?”. Well thank you - it’s always lovely to receive a compliment! Seeing as you might too covet a fluffier brow, I thought I’d get my own technique onto the blog and at the same time, share the latest addition to the Benefit Brow product stable too.

I’ve been a devotee of the 24-Hour Brow Setter Clear Gel for eons so was excited to learn that they’ve recently added another hero - Fluff Up Brow Wax [Gifted Product] - it’s really good! This stuff makes them a little more malleable once applied. making brushing them into shape easier. If using the 24 Hour Gel you have to work fairly quickly as once it begins to set, those babies are not moving. Both products are brilliant, well worth the price tags and even with daily use, they last for ages so whether you opt for wax or gel is really your call.

I used to then go straight for the Bobbi Brown pencil (more on that in a minute), but last year I discovered the Glossier Brow Flick Microfine Detailing Pen and have been hooked ever since. I’m not going to lie - it can be a little tricky to master at first - you need a steady hand and the lightest of touches with only the very tip of the pen. When the product is new, I’ve found that dabbing the side of it on a clean tissue before using helps to get rid of the excess and leads to less mistakes. I have dark eyebrows so once they’ve been fluffed up and shaped, the gaps that need filling in are quite apparent - I use the Black shade in Glossier Brow Flick and it’s a perfect match. I’d definitely recommend a couple of practice sessions with this pen - don’t leave the first time you use it until that morning you need to fly out the door in a hurry! Once you get it, I’ll guarantee you’ll love it!

Then comes the old favourite - Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Espresso - for touch ups or blending if needed. I use feathery strokes of the pencil to extend the pointy end of my brow brow a little and the comb is really good for lightly smudging in any Micropen strokes where I might have gotten a little over enthusiastic. I like the fact that this product is refillable for the pencil part, cutting down on plastic waste - and don’t forget you can recycle most beauty products at your local John Lewis Beauty Hall - details of which products and how can be found here.

I don’t know what it is about the fluffy brow thing but even if I don’t bother with anything else (apart from SPF cream), I always do my brows. Some might venture that all this sounds like a whole lotta work for some fluffiness but I’ve got it down to around thirty seconds at the end of my morning makeup routine. Speaking of time, it took me a lot longer than thirty seconds to film and edit my Fluffy Brow Reel over on Instagram… you can only take a look if you promise not to laugh at the faces pulled whilst attempting to use a phone camera as makeup mirror…
